Privacy policy

This page explains what Farflung on farflung.online stores when you play, why, and for how long. Last updated 19 October 2026.

No accounts

You don't sign up or give your name or email to play. The first time you play, the server sets a cookie called ff_uid that holds a random identifier and a signature. It identifies your browser to the game so you can resume an expedition and can't play the same day twice. It lasts 400 days and is not used for advertising.

What the game stores

  • Your pins: the prompt, the country you chose, when you started and pinned, and the distance it earned, linked to the random identifier.
  • Counts of how many players picked each country, used to measure rarity and shown to everyone at camp. These counts name no one.
  • Reports you send with "Suggest a missing answer", including any note you write.

Your stats, streak and expedition log are kept in your browser's local storage and never leave your device.

Analytics

Farflung may use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how many people play and where the game is hard to use. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland they only run after you agree in the consent banner; you can change your choice by clearing this site's data. Elsewhere they run without asking. Neither is used for advertising.

Who processes data

The game and its database run on Cloudflare. Analytics, when used, are processed by Google and Microsoft. Farflung does not sell or share personal data with anyone else, and shows no ads.

How long data is kept

Pins are kept while the game runs, so past expeditions and their answer counts stay accurate. Reports are deleted once reviewed. You can ask for the pins linked to your identifier to be deleted by writing to hello@farflung.online.
