How to play Farflung
Farflung is a daily geography game about finding the right answer nobody else thinks of. Here is everything you need to know to play your first expedition, whether you found us by searching for Farflung or for the far flung game.
The expedition
Each day has one expedition of five prompts. Everyone in the world gets the same five prompts for the same date, and a new expedition opens at midnight where you are. Prompts are about countries: where they are, who they border, what their flags look like, how many people live there, which mountains, rivers and cities they have, and even how their names are spelled.
Dropping a pin
When a prompt appears you have 60 seconds. Tap a country on the map to select it; its whole territory lights up and its name appears under the map. Tap it again, or press Drop pin, to lock it in. You can also type a country's name in the search box and pick it from the list, which is the easiest way to reach small countries on a phone. Press / on a keyboard to jump to search.
If the clock runs out while a country is selected, that country is pinned for you. If nothing is selected, the round is a Miss.
Rare answers go further
After each pin you see how far it carried you, between 0 and 100 km. A popular answer is worth 40 km; an answer almost nobody thought of is worth 100. The full table is on the scoring page.
Making camp
After your fifth pin you make camp. Camp shows every right answer to every prompt, the share of players who picked each one, a heat map of where people pinned, and how your distance compares with everyone else's today. From camp you can share your result, catch up on any of the last seven expeditions, or play Unlimited.
Territories and disputed places
Overseas territories count for the country that governs them, both on the map and in the answers. Western Sahara is drawn but counts as no country. Kosovo, Taiwan and Palestine are playable countries, for 197 countries in total.
